as the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah has good deeds in it, and good deeds ten times as much, I do not say (pain) letters, but a thousand letters, lam letters, and meem letters.” [Saheeh] – [Narrated by al-Tirmidhi].

Accordingly, in this article, we will discuss the proper method of Improving Quran Recitation, mentioning how the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) read the Qur’an, and conclude by clarifying the ruling on improving the voice and singing the verses of the Holy Qur’an.

How to Improve Quran Recitation?

One of the issues that preoccupy the mind of a Muslim is how to improve the tone of voice, as it was reported from the Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: “Decorate the Qur’an with your voices” [Saheeh] – [Narrated by Abu Dawood, al-Nasaa’i, Ibn Majah and Ahmad]

Therefore, the beautiful voice in the Quran is one of the Sunnahs of the Prophet recommended by the Prophet to his companions and followers, and to improve the voice, you should do the following:

Experimenting with more than one tone of voice when reciting the Holy Qur’an

using several methods at varying speeds and with different layers, and training on it for some time, while recording the sound and re-listening to it ball after ball very objectively to give the proper evaluation.

Using family and friends and reading in front of others in general

if you cannot objectively judge the quality of your voice and your good recitation, seek the help of those close to you to clarify the sweetness of the voice from its roughness, and to indicate the exits of the letters and the extent of interest in their qualities.

Search for a reciter sheik

preferably choosing a sheik with whom the tone of voice is close, taking into account the ease of imitating this sheikh and listening to his recitation more than once.

Listen to audio recordings and tapes of the Qur’an

make sure to listen daily, and work to simulate the reciter and imitate his way, then imitate him without listening to the recordings with a comparison of each reading from time to time.

Reviewing the exercises of the soul and working with them

so that you do not stop at the recitation except at the signs of the endowment, and this requires constant and uninterrupted training, which helps to Improve Quran Recitation.

Familiarity with the rules and provisions of intonation

the recitation of the Qur’an, and its good recitation is a fruit that one does not reap unless he delves into the science of tajweed and is pained by it.

Ruling on improving the voice in reading the Qur’an

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was keen on Improve Quran Recitation because of its good effect on hearts and ears, as it was stated in the authentic hadith: “Allah has not authorized anything to allow a prophet to sing the Qur’an”.

The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) passed one night by Abu Musa al-Ash’ari while he was reading, and he listened to him, and he liked his voice, but when he saw him in the daytime, he told him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: “If you knew that you were listening to his ink for you” [Saheeh] – [Narrated by Anas ibn Malik] He used to say (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) when he heard his voice: “This has come from the Psalms of the family of Dawood” i.e. a good voice.

Imam al-Nawawi conveyed the consensus of scholars from the predecessors and successors, and from the Companions and followers – may Allah be pleased with them – that improving the sound is desirable and even rewarding its owner for it, and obtaining a great status in the two worlds.

Definition of mantras in the Qur’an

The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “There is no one among us who has not sung the Qur’an” [Sahih] – [Narrated by Saad bin Abi Waqqas] and singing in the language means dispensing with it from others or sufficiency with something, which is for the scholars to improve or store or speak out about the Qur’an, and mantras is also reverence, meditation, and lamentation when contemplating and reciting it.

How did the Prophet read the Holy Quran?

The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite the Qur’an standing, sitting, lying down, ablution, and hadith, and he was not prevented from reading except janaabah, and the Prophet used to recite it singing it and reciting it without hurry or delay.

Ibn al-Qayyim said in (Zad al-Ma’ad fi Huda Khair al-Abbad): “He had a party that he reads, and does not disturb it, and his reading was a hymn neither this nor a hurry, but an interpreted reading letter by letter, and he used to interrupt his reading verse by verse,

and he used to extend at the letters of the tide, so he extended (the Most Merciful) and extended (the Merciful) and he used to seek the help of God from the accursed Satan in his first reading, so he says (I seek refuge in God from the accursed Satan) and perhaps he used to say (Oh God, I seek refuge in you from the accursed Satan from his hamza and puff and blow it.”

The virtue of reading the Qur’an

The greatest thing that brings the slave closer to his Lord is to read the Holy Qur’an, God Almighty has ordered his Prophet – may God’s peace and blessings be upon him – to recite the verses of the Holy Qur’an, the Almighty said in Surat Al-Muzzammil: (The Qur’an recited a hymn) and the Almighty said: (Those who recite the Book of God and established prayers and spent what we provided them secretly and openly hope for a trade that will not be wasted * to pay them their wages and increase them from His bounty, he is forgiving and thankful). Fatir – Verse 29

Therefore, the virtue of reading, reciting, and memorizing the Qur’an is great, and this is a statement of these virtues:

1- Great reward and reward

The reader of the Qur’an has a reward in this world and the Hereafter, and it was reported from the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) that reciting each letter is based on ten good deeds, so Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah has good deeds in it, and the good deeds are ten times as good, I do not say the pain of a letter, but a thousand letters, a lam a letter, and a meem letter.” [Saheeh] – [Narrated by al-Tirmidhi].

2- Intercession on the Day of Resurrection

It is proven from the Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) that the Holy Qur’an intercedes for its owner on the Day of Resurrection: “Read the Qur’an, for it will come on the Day of Resurrection as an intercessor for its companions” [Saheeh] – [Narrated by Abu Umamah al-Bahili]. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Fasting and the Qur’an will intercede for a slave on the Day of Resurrection.” [Hassan] – [Narrated by Abdullah bin Amr].

3- Raises the grades in the two houses

Allah, the Almighty, doubles the degrees of the Qur’an reciter, and his status is higher in this world and the Hereafter, and it has been proven from the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: “Allah lifts some people with this book and puts others in it.” [Saheeh] – [Narrated by ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab].

4- Brings tranquility to the heart

The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was quoted as saying that reading the Qur’an is one of the reasons for the descent of mercy and tranquility in the heart of its reciter, so Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“When some people gather in one of the houses of Allah, recite the Book of Allah and study it among them, tranquility descended upon them, and they were overwhelmed by mercy and protected by angels, and Allah reminded them of those with Him.” [Saheeh] – [Narrated by Abu Huraira].

5. Preference

The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) preferred the reciter of the Qur’an to his emigration and differentiated between them, so Abu Musa al-Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“Like a believer who reads the Qur’aan like a date: its wind is good and tastes good, and like a believer who does not read the Qur’an like a date: it has no wind and tastes sweet and like a hypocrite who reads the Qur’an like a Rayhana: Its wind is pleasant and its taste is bitter, and like a hypocrite who does not read the Qur’an like a handala: it has no wind and tastes bitter”  [Saheeh] – [Narrated by Abu Musa al-Ash’ari].

6- Obtaining the rank of the people of God

It was narrated that Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Allah has two people among people.” They said: O Messenger of Allah, who are they? He said, “They are the people of the Qur’an, the people of God and His own.” [Saheeh] – [Narrated by Anas bin Malik].

7- Obtaining the degree of two laws

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever keeps these written prayers is not written from among the heedless, and whoever recites one hundred verses in the night is written from the two canons.” [Saheeh on the condition of the two sheiks] – [Narrated by Abu Huraira].
