In the Islamic world, thousands of Muslim children and elders memorize the Holy Quran every year regardless of

the country they belong to and the language they speak. One who memorizes the Quran and follows the teachings

mentioned in it by Allah (SWT), has been promised to be rewarded not only in this world but also in the world

hereafter.

For example,

The verses of the Quran have hidden in them the most valuable treasures of wisdom and benefits that can only be

revealed to those who learn and memorize the Quran as well as act upon it. There are effectual benefits and virtues

of memorizing the Holy Quran for children and elders who become memorizers of the Quran.

Religious benefits of memorizing the Quran

Allah (SWT) has promised to reward and raise the status of the memorizers of the Quran in the world after and the

Paradise (Jannah).

The Prophet Mohammad (ﷺ) said: “It will be said to the one who memorized the Quran, ‘Recite and arise, and

recite as you used to recite in the world, for your rank in Jannah will be at the last verse you recite.”

The memorizers of the Quran will be honored and rewarded with a high rank in Paradise and their good deeds will

be doubled. They will be asked to recite the Quran and their parents will be crowned.

Mentioning the reward of memorizing the Quran,

the Prophet Mohammad (ﷺ) said:

“The one who recites the Quran and acts upon it, on the Day of Judgement, his parents will be made to wear a

crown whose light is better then the light of the sun had it been in the dwellings of the world, so what do you think

(of the reward) of the person himself.”

The wife of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), Ayesha (ﷺ) reported that the Prophet Mohammad (ﷺ) said about the status

(in Paradise) of the one who memorizes the Quran:

“One who recites the Quran and memorizes it, will be with noble scribes in Paradise and the one who reads it and

tries hard to memorize it even though it is difficult for him, he will receive double rewards.”

Ali-ul-Murtaza (ﷺ) reports that the Prophet Mohammad (ﷺ) said: “Whoever

memorizes the Quran, and regards its permissible as permissible and its impermissible as impermissible, Allah

(SWT) will enter him into Paradise and allow him to intercede for ten family members on the Day of Judgement,

who destined to enter Hell”.

Mental and physical benefits of memorizing the Quran

Besides the religious and spiritual benefits of memorizing the Quran, several mental and physical benefits have

been realized as divine rewards such as riddance from depression and anxiety, training and boosting of brain, peace

of heart and mind, prevention from diseases, and so on.

Depression is a serious illness that causes severe damage to one’s life both spiritually and physically. The daily

recitation and memorization of the Holy Quran not only eases the heart and mind but also ends the anxiety and

stress.

Allah (SWT) mentions in the Quran about the peace and satisfaction of heart:

helps one to train the brain and to maintain the information effectively. It helps in the cognitive functioning of the

brain even in old age when the memory usually starts to fade. It benefits the children, for they are more likely to

easily retain information in their old age. The more one tries to memorize the Quran, the more effective and

stronger the brain becomes. Moreover, it also helps psychologically in making a positive change in the person and

Quran memorization prevents diseases like hypertension, depression, diabetes, and others. It is due to the strong

belief and faith of Muslims in memorization of the Quran that even by memorizing small sections of it, they are

protected from the diseases. It psychologically boosts their belief leading to satisfaction, happiness, and a positive
