Inspiring Quranic Verses

Inspirational Quranic Verses

Contemplation of the Quranic Verses and understanding their meanings and noble purposes is at its core worship by which the slave approaches his Creator, as these verses contain all that has happened, is happening, and will happen, these verses came to record for us the stories of the first two, lessons, rulings, prohibitions and divine orders with which we are happy in the worldly and the hereafter.

Meaning of a verse in the Quran

It is singular verses, and in the Arabic language means miracle or mark or emirate, and when linked to the Holy Qur’an, it means the paragraph or sentence and divides the surahs of the Qur’an into verses, and the forms of verses and their number vary according to the surahs, some of them are a line, some are letters, and some exceed the line and two lines,

and it is worth noting in this regard that the longest verse in the Holy Qur’an is the verse of religion in Surat Al-Baqarah, which is verse No. 282, while the shortest verse in the Qur’an is Taha or Yassin or Ham.

These Quranic verses are eloquent and distinguished from what came by the Arabs of ignorance in weight and rhyme, and therefore they were revealed to confirm the prophecy and refute the infidels, they fell into confusion when they went to say: How can an illiterate man who does not read or write to come with such verses in which the eloquence and tightness of what the worlds are unable to bring.

How many verses and letters of the Holy Quran and how many Hezb does it have?

There is a difference among scholars on the number of verses of God, but the most likely opinion is that the number of verses is 6200 verses, while opinions vary in more than that, some said: that the number of verses is 6204 verses, and some of them said: 6225 verses and some said: 6236 verses. These numbers are distributed among seven schools of thought, which is a statement:

1- First civil issue

This was narrated by Nafi’ from Abu Ja’far and Shaybah, who said that the number of Qur’anic verses is 6217 verses.

2- The last civil number

This is what Isma’il ibn Ja’far narrated from Sulayman ibn Jammaz, who said that the number of verses is 6214 verses.

3- The Meccan number

It was narrated by Abu ‘Amr al-Dani from Ibn Kathir Mujahid Ibn ‘Abbas from Abi ibn Ka’b from the Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) that the number of Qur’anic verses is 6210 verses.

4- Optical number

This is narrated by al-Dani from ‘Asim al-Jahdari and ‘Ata’ ibn Yasar, who said that the number of Qur’anic verses is 6,204 verses.

5- Damascene number

This is what al-Dani narrated from Yahya al-Dhamari from Ibn ‘Amir from Abu al-Darda’ who says the numbers 6224 and 6227 verses.

6- Homsi number

It is narrated from Shurayh ibn Yazid al-Homsi who said that the number of Qur’anic verses is 6232 verses.

7- Kufic number

This is what Hamza and Sufyan narrated from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the number of Qur’anic verses is 6236.

This discrepancy in the number of verses is attributed to the difference between Meccan, civilian, Basri, Kufic, and Levantine reciters, and the difference in the number of verses is only a formality that does not detract from the Holy Qur’an, does not increase it or affect it, but it is a difference in the intervals of the verses, that is, in the place of their end.

As for the number of letters of the Holy Qur’an, there is a difference in that, some of them said: that the number of words of the Holy Qur’an is 77,437 words, while its letters were said to be 321,000 letters, and there is an opinion that says: that the number of letters 323015 letters.

The difference in the number of words is due to the difference in whether or not the basmala is considered a verse, as well as in the letters of the tide.

Coming to the number of parties of the Qur’an, the Qur’an is thirty parts, each part into two parties, each party into four quarters, and each quarter to eighths, and the parties of the Qur’an at the present time are divided into sixty parties, and the party may be divided into two halves or into four quarters,

so the Qur’an is 240 quarter parties, and these quarters of the Hafiz of the Qur’an may consist of only 9 verses or up to 70 verses.

The reason for this is that the Tahzeeb of the Qur’an dates back to the time of the pilgrims, which relied on the number of letters and not the verses and surahs.

The virtue of Surat Al-Fatihah

Many virtues of Surat Al-Fatihah were received, it is a Meccan surah, and it is the first surah in the order of the Qur’an, and the number of its verses is seven with the basmala, and this is a statement of the virtue of Surat Al-Fatihah:

1- The greatest surah

This is because the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “To teach you a surah that is the greatest surah in the Qur’an, he said: Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, it is the seven Mathani, and the great Qur’an that you have received.” [Saheeh, narrated by Abu Sa’id ibn al-Mu’ali]

2- Roqyah for the patient

Imam al-Bukhari narrated in his Saheeh from Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: “Some of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came to one of the Arab neighborhoods and did not approve of them. They said, “You have not read us, and we will not do so until you have made a flock for us, and they have made a flock of wills for them, and he has made him recite the mother of the Qur’an.” [Saheeh, narrated by Abu Sa’id al-Khudri]

3- Meeting demands

The Almighty said in Surat Al-Fatihah: (Do not worship and do not seek help) When we read it, it is indicative of the help of God – the Almighty – in meeting the needs and achieving the goals and purposes.

4- Response to supplication

The Almighty said in Surat Al-Fatihah: (Guide us to the straight path, the path of those whom you have blessed, not those who are angry with them or those who are lost). Guidance to the straight path is the way to answer supplication.

5- Monologues with God

Surat Al-Fatihah is obligatory for every Muslim in every rak’ah, as it is one of the pillars of prayer, as the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “There is no prayer for those who have not read the opening of the Book.” [Saheeh, narrated by ‘Ubadah ibn al-Samit] The Messenger of Allah said: “Every prayer in which the opening of the Book is not recited is prematurity.” [Saheeh, narrated by Abu Huraira] Prematurity is corruption.

The virtue of Ayat al-Kursi

Ayat al-Kursi is the greatest verse of the Holy Qur’an, and there are many virtues for it, including the following:

1- The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite it after every prayer, and he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever recites the verse of al-Kursi orchestrates every written prayer, nothing prevents him from entering Paradise, except death.” [Saheeh, narrated by Abu Umamah al-Bahili]

2- Prevention of envy, the eye, and magic, whoever reads it in the morning, may God protect him until the evening, as well as whoever memorizes it in the evening, may God protect it until the morning, has made it a guard from the devil, charlatans, and charlatans.

3- The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite it at bedtime to drive away demons.

4- It contains the names of Allah, including the name of Allah the Greatest, which if the servant is called, he answers.

Touching Quranic verses close to the heart

There are verses in the Qur’an that make the heart soften and the soul humble, the Qur’an came to address the minds and hearts, and these verses are influential and close to the heart:

Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allāh and what has come down of the truth? And let them not be like those who were given the Scripture before, and a long period passed over them, so their hearts hardened; and many of them are defiantly disobedient. [Al-Hadīd: 16]

On the [same] Day the hypocrite men and hypocrite women will say to those who believed, “Wait for us that we may acquire some of your light.” It will be said, “Go back behind you and seek light.” And a wall will be placed between them with a door, its interior containing mercy, but on the outside of it is torment. [Al-Hadīd: 13]

Indeed, the men who practice charity and the women who practice charity and [they who] have loaned Allāh a goodly loan – it will be multiplied for them, and they will have a noble reward. [Al-Hadīd: 18]

And seek help through patience and prayer; and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allāh] [Al-Baqarah: 45]

And fear a Day when no soul will suffice for another soul at all, nor will intercession be accepted from it, nor will compensation be taken from it, nor will they be aided. [Al-Baqarah: 48]

Indeed, those who believed and those who were Jews or Christians or Sabeans [before Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] – those [among them] who believed in Allāh and the Last Day and did righteousness – will have their reward with their Lord, and no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve. [Al-Baqarah: 62]

Who, when disaster strikes them, say, “Indeed we belong to Allāh, and indeed to Him we will return.” [Al-Baqarah: 156]

There is no doubt that the whole Qur’an is good and comfortable for the soul, and it brings peace and tranquility to the soul because the Almighty says: (Those who believe and their hearts are reassured by the remembrance of God, but by the remembrance of God, hearts are reassured).

However, there are some verses that are called “verses of tranquility” and psychological comfort, including those mentioned in Surat Al-Baqarah and Al-Tawbah:

(Unless you support him, God has helped him, as those who disbelieve brought him out the second two, as they are in the cave, as he says to his companion, do not be sad, that God is with us, so God sent down His peace on him and supported him with soldiers you did not see, and made the word of those who disbelieved the lower, and the word of God is the supreme, and God is dear and wise). [At-Tawbah: 40]
